NEWP conducted Kayak Essentials
classes through the Sheboygan YMCA in the fall of 2010 and 2011.
Each class session began in a classroom and then moves to the pool
for on-water training. Participants need swim wear, aqua socks or
appropriate footwear. A synthetic t-shirt or lightweight neoprene
is optional for comfort in the pool. Boats, paddles and all other
gear are provided by the North East Wisconsin Paddlers for the
classes. Nose clips are made available for a nominal fee.
All class participants are also invited to participate in NEWPs
Student Outings in June, which include a whitewater paddle trip on
the Red River and a Sea Kayak outing on Lake Michigan (conditions
permitting).
If you are interested in these classes at the Sheboygan YMCA,
please contact Tom Koeppen,
the lead instructor. Registration is handled through the Sheboygan
YMCA.
