A single Kayak Essentials class is
conducted by NEWP at the Neenah NEWP in downtown Neenah each
January. The class includes four sessions typically meeting on
Sunday afternoons, and sometimes on Wednesday evenings. Lead
Instructors are Will Stahl and Jack Roberts. The kayak classes will
be described in the Winter Program Guide, available online at:
http://www.ymcafoxcities.org/. Registration for Winter Session
1 opens for members in December; non-members may register beginning
in early January. Please contact the Fox Cities YMCA Aquatics
Department at (920) 954-7628 with questions regarding class
registration. Class fee information will be published in the winter
program guide.
Participants will need swim
wear, aqua socks or appropriate footwear. A synthetic t-shirt or
lightweight neoprene is optional for comfort in the pool. Boats,
paddles and all other gear required for the class are provided by
the North East Wisconsin Paddlers. Nose clips will be available for
a nominal fee.
Neenah class participants are
eligible to participate in open pool sessions at the Appleton YMCA
on the dates shown on the Appleton class page and will also be
invited to participate in Student Outings each June. These include
both a whitewater paddle trip on the Red River and a Sea Kayak
outing on Lake Michigan (conditions permitting).
Registration for the classes is available online for YMCA
members starting in mid-December. General public registration
begins in early January.
