The 2012 Appleton Locks
Paddle launches from Lutz Park in Appleton and passes through all
four Appleton locks on the way downriver
to take out at Sunset Point Park in Kimberly, WI.
This will be the 3rd year for this event, which has become a
popular finale to the paddle season for many paddlers! In the past,
short presentations about the unique Fox River lock system and
planned waterfront developments along the paddle route have been
presented in the locks. This year, paddlers will be able to see
some of those new developments already built and in use!
Hopefully we'll enjoy nice weather
and great fall color along the way. We'll land around noon, leaving
plenty of time to enjoy Appleton's incredible Octoberfest celebration!

Shuttle and Support Information
A school bus will be chartered to
make two round trips between Sunset Point Park in Kimberly, where
this event ends, and the launch at Lutz Park in Appleton, WI before
the launch. There will not be a formal shuttle back to Lutz Park
after the paddle, but many paddlers returning to Appleton will be
available to shuttle those that need a ride.
If you choose to shuttle yourself or take this
trip on your own, the alternative route between the parks shown to
the right may be used instead of traveling College Avenue, which
can be congested. Click on the map image above to access a
printable shuttle map and directions.
On-Water Support
On-water escorts will be provided
by the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department Water Patrol and the
City of Appleton Fire Department water rescue team. Both the
County and the City have graciously provided safety escort services
for our annual Park-to-Park Paddle and Appleton Locks Paddle for
many years. We also benefit from the participation, and assistance
where needed, of several experienced paddlers who will provide
on-water assistance if required.
