Overview and General Information
North East Wisconsin Paddlers is again proud
to partner with the Fox-Wisconsin Heritage
Parkway to offer a series of paddle events designed to
celebrate and explore the Parkway itself. The Fox-Wisconsin
Heritage Parkway is a not-for-profit organization and currently
seeking Federal designation of the Parkway's entire length as a
National Heritage Area. They are also actively engaged in
preparing the length of the Parkway for Federal designation as a
National Recreation Trail, or Water Trail. To learn more about the
Parkway and the many ways you can participate in supporting
its mission, visit http://www.HeritageParkway.org.
General information about these public paddle events is provided on
this page, by topic. Detailed information about each individual
event is provided through the individual date or segment links on
the right-hand column of this page.
Weather
Policy
The scheduled paddle segments will go as scheduled, rain or
shine - BUT NOT in the presence or threat of lightning. If the
weather forecast is threatening and conditions are questionable, we
will meet at the scheduled location for the launch and evaluate
conditions. If we proceed, but electrical storms develop while we
are underway, we will get off the water and either wait for the
weather to clear or arrange transportation to our vehicles. Bring
rain gear, perhaps a tarp and a deck of cards!
Camping
Notes
During the planning stages of this
and past year paddle events, people have expressed interest in a
variety of lodging options for the night before morning paddles or
the night between consecutive day paddles. Some are seeking the
experience of primitive camping on sandbars usually available on
the Lower Wisconsin River. Others would rather camp on "terra
firma" with reliable rest room and shower facilities. And some
greatly prefer to spend the night in a warm (and dry) bed or
(multi-star) hotel. Overnight loding is a personal choice - we will
offer suggestions for various options based on the circumstances
and venue of each trip.
Shuttle
Notes
Most of our trips are one way - down river! Depending on the
logistics of each trip segment, we will coordinate "ad hoc" group
shuttling prior to launch time or in some cases, will charter
commercial shuttles. We will coordinate bus shuttle support for the
Park-to-Park, Moonlight and Appleton Locks paddles. We will also
look for commercial shuttle options for the other paddle events in
this year's series on a case-by-case basis and will post specific
details on each individual trip page.

Event Sponsors
Interested in sponsoring our FWHP
2012 events? We have maintained very reasonable event fees through
prudent planning and effective partnering, but greatly appreciate
contributions from event sponsors to help defray miscellaneous
costs related to advertising, shuttles and other printing. Several
hundred Wisconsin paddlers have participated in past year events -
please contact
us if you would like more information!
Registration
Registration is handled at the launch site. Event fees are $10 per
segment for participants 16 years and older; there is no charge
for participants under age 16 with an adult. A "season pass"
for all 10 segments is available for $70. Some of these paddles
will also include the opportunity to participate in a voyageur
canoe, which involves a small additional fee to offset the costs
related to transporting the boats and providing paddle gear.
