Classes
Detailed information on the 2011 schedule of classes will be posted here as available. The following is general information based on past years' experience.
The Appleton NEWP classes are held at the Fox Cities YMCA in downtown Appleton, starting in February and continuing through April each year. The classes are generally scheduled from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on successive Sunday afternoons except for Easter Sunday and CanoeCopia in mid-March. Lead Instructors are Bill Merrick and Jeff Mazanec. Open pool sessions are also offered for NEWP members and students; open pool coordinator is Jack Roberts.
Registration information will be published in the YMCA's winter program catalog and available online. Registration for classes that begin in Winter Session 1 (January - February) is open for YMCA members in mid-December and for non-members in early January. Registration for classes that begin in Winter Session 2 (February - April) opens for YMCA members in early February and for non-members in mid-February. A Kayak Demo session will be scheduled in December, 2010 in the Boldt Pool at the Appleton YMCA. Participants need to bring swimwear but all other gear (kayaks, spray skirts, helmets, paddles) will be provided by the North East Wisconsin Paddlers.
