The 2014 Paddler Gear Swap will be held Saturday April 19 at
St. Mary's Parish in downtown Appleton!!

The North East Wisconsin Paddlers 2014 event will include a private boat and gear swap, educational sessions and boat maintenance workshop activities!

Boat and Gear Swap

Have extra gear or too many boats? Need a new (to you) boat, paddling gear or equipment? Bring your spare gear, extra boats and wish list! Standard gear swap format - we'll provide a space and table for the gear you wish to sell - you set the price and make the deal!

Skill Workshops

  • 10:30 a.m. - Marine (VHF) Radio Etiquette for Paddlers
  • 11:30 p.m. - Technical Hazards for Paddlers on the Lower Fox River - Meet the Experts!
  • 12:30 p.m. - Tips for Safe Boat Carrying, Loading and Transporting - Hands-on Session!
  • 1:30 p.m. - NE Wisconsin (backyard) Paddle Destinations!

Maintenance Workshop

Need to repair or upgrade your boat? Or just need help adjusting it to best fit you? Bring your boat, supplies (if you have them) and simple tools. We'll share our time and talent to help you do simple adjustments, replacements and modifications.

  • Adjustments - back bands, braces, seat adjustments, rudders, skegs and their fittings
  • Replacements - deck lines, bungee cord, incidental hardware
  • Modifications - knee tube construction/ installation, foam pad shaping and coating; others!

Need major work? Maybe we cannot complete that in this format, but it's likely some of our participants can help you figure out what you need and how to do it! Some supplies will be available (for purchase) through participating boat builders and retailers.

For those that cannot participate in the swap - Due to the short-term nature of classifieds, and the challenge of keeping them current, we do not post items for sale or purchase on this site other than the occasional sale of club boats and gear. We heartily recommend use of http://www.craigslist.com and http://www.paddling.net/ for boat and gear exchange!

Who is invited?

This event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - anybody who wants to attend is welcome!

Where is St. Mary's Parish?

St. Mary's Parish Gymnasium
312 South State Street Appleton, WI

(Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for set-up)

Is there an entrance fee?

No! The North East Wisconsin Paddlers, Inc. club has covered the facility rental fee!

Will food be available for lunch?

Not on site, but many nearby options!

Format

The format for this workshop will again be open and casual. Participants are welcome to bring their boats to the facility for maintenance or to sell as well as gear to swap.

Expectations?

2014 will be our third year and we are learning as we go, so please be patient! We expect to have a good workshop, provide an opportunity for people to exchange used gear or purchase new gear, learn some skills, meet old friends and make some new ones just in time for the start of the paddle season! This is an indoor event, so we are relatively weather-proof. About 200 people participated in 2013; the facility offers plenty of room. So come check it out and we'll all have a good time!
